Swiss Arbitration Ambassador Feature: The Nordics
As part of our mission to enhance awareness of Swiss Arbitration and promote Switzerland as a premier seat of arbitration, we proudly launched the Swiss Arbitration Ambassador Programme in 2023. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our Co-chairs, Niklaus Zaugg, Flavio Peter, and Benjamin Gottlieb, this initiative features a stellar network of ambassadors from various jurisdictions around the world. Together, we are fostering stronger connections between the Switzerland and arbitration communities globally.
To showcase the remarkable work of our ambassadors, we are excited to launch a new article series highlighting their contributions, region by region. This series underscores their efforts to build bridges between their local arbitration communities and the Swiss Arbitration ecosystem. In this inaugural article, we turn our attention to the Nordics, where innovation is at the forefront of their approach.
Our ambassadors, Nina Lauber Thommesen and Hanna Roos, embody a pragmatic and forward-thinking mindset to dispute resolution, laying the foundation for meaningful collaboration between the Swiss and Nordic arbitration communities.
“Our mission as arbitration specialists: innovation. We were therefore glad to join as Swiss Arbitration Ambassadors for the Nordics, where we hail from. The Swiss and Nordic arbitration communities have much in common, particularly in sharing a pragmatic and forward-looking focus on dispute resolution. We therefore hope to do our part to facilitate stronger ties between these communities.” – Nina Lauber Thommessen, Independent Arbitrator
Creating Connections Through Innovation
In their efforts to bridge the Swiss and Nordic arbitration communities, our ambassadors embraced a dynamic and engaging strategy. They set out to gather perspectives directly from the field, engaging with key stakeholders and experts.
“Our approach? The viral kind. We went on the road in Switzerland and the Nordics, conducting interviews with institutions, practitioners, and users of arbitration services. We are turning this content into a series of short videos on cutting-edge topics.” – Hanna Roos, Aavgard
Their key topics include:
- AI in Arbitration: How can we harness its potential to improve arbitration processes while addressing perceived risks?
- Arbitration for High Net Worth (HNW) Individuals: Does the current system adequately meet their unique needs?
- Incentives and Sanctions in Arbitration: What concrete tools and solutions can prevent proceedings from derailing while managing time and costs effectively?
The video format was chosen for its accessibility, effectiveness, eco-friendliness, and cost-efficiency. It is also specifically tailored to engage in-house counsel, a group that, in the ambassadors’ experience, is often underrepresented in arbitration discussions.
The Swiss Arbitration Ambassador Programme is committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, and stronger ties across borders. Stay tuned for the upcoming video content, and connect with the ambassadors to learn more or collaborate.
You can also meet our Nordic ambassadors at the Swiss Arbitration Summit and the Swedish Arbitration Days this month. Join us in celebrating the partnerships and progress that drive Swiss Arbitration forward!
