The Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA) and the Swiss Chamber of Commercial Mediation (SCCM) are jointly organizing this Webinar Series to provide practical tips for inhouse counsel, arbitration practitioners, lawyers and mediators.

Last year we discussed whether mediation even works with regard to commercial disputes. As we concluded in the affirmative, we would now like to continue our discussion and raise the fundamental question of “why do we need commercial mediation?” Or in other words, in what situations does it make sense to mediate and why isn’t mediation used more often – given its unique features such as procedural flexibility, the ability to overcome negotiation deadlocks and to agree on a settlement within a one or two day session and, last but not least, its relative risk-free character compared to adjudicative processes?

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session.

This 1-hour webinar counts towards re-accreditation for the title “Mediator SCCM” and “Mediator SAV/FSA”(1 credit each).

Julia Jung and Urs Weber-Stecher will be discussing this topic in an interview format with their guest Dr. Karl Mackie CBE.

He is co-founder and pioneering CEO of CEDR and has an unique wide range of experience in ADR in maybe any imaginable industry. In 2010 Karl became the only mediator ever to be given an honor by the state, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), for services to mediation, both developing and delivering.
