"Kognitive Fallstricke für Schiedsrichterinnen (und Richter) bei der Urteilsfällung"

Kellerhals Carrard, Henric Petri-Strasse 35, 4010 Basel
25 Mar, 2025

Summary

ASA Local Group Basel kicks off their year of events on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, at 18:00 onwards at the Kellerhard Carrard offices, as they explore “Kognitive Fallstricke für Schiedsrichterinnen (und Richter) bei der Urteilsfällung.”

The discussion will be led by our esteemed speakers:

  • Prof. Christoph Müller (Université de Neuchâtel)

The session will examine psychological factors that may unconsciously influence arbitral decisions. Referees are not immune to cognitive biases, but are they aware of them? What are the effects of cognitive bias, and how should referees deal with them? Referees must remain independent and impartial, yet neurobiology and neuropsychology show us that humans often use “mental shortcuts” to simplify and solve problems. While these shortcuts can be helpful and efficient, they can also lead to biases that affect decision-making.

The session will be conducted in German, followed by a networking aperitif.
